For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:17 (ESV)
The gospel means the good news. What then is this good news? The page doesn't contain a complete explanation of the Gospel, but perhaps it can be an inspiration to others. This world can be a dark place. When we look around we see many thing go wrong. When we look at peoples lives we see anger, depression, loneliness and other not so happy stuff. So again what then is this good news?
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also have received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 1 Corinthians 15:3 (ESV)
In the above Bible verse someone called Christ is mentioned. That person is Jesus Christ. The meaning of the name Jesus can be translated with God is salvation. This person Jesus Christ who was dead but came to life again was and is God's Son. Instead of leaving us to live in this sometimes dark world and then just let us die and face judgment, God himself provided for the solution.
I find it interesting to mention that after Jesus came back to life, people knew that the grave was empty. When the body was in the the grave there were even guards at the site to prevent people from stealing the body. Now when this man Cephas talked about Jesus being raised from the dead, there was nobody who said that the body was still in the grave. People knew that the grave was empty!
The above Bible verse talks about the Scriptures. There are many places where the Old Testament speaks about a savior. For myself I like the story of Abraham where God at first asks him to sacrifice his son. Abraham didn't tell this to his son, but later on when his son asks where the animal for the sacrifice was, he answered: "God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son". The story is in Genesis 22 in the Old Testament. In the end Abraham didn't need to sacrifice his son. In the New Testament Jesus Christ is called the Lamb of God.
In this world people are enslaved. Some are enslaved by addictions and people are enslaved by the fear of death. But God provided a solution. When the jailer in Philippi asked Paul and Silas what he must do to be saved they gave the following answer:
And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household. Acts 16:31 (ESV)
I personally think that believing in Jesus Christ is more than an insurance for life after death. We can have peace with God! Some people run from satisfaction to satisfaction. But Jesus offers His peace. Living a life with God doesn't mean that there won't be trouble. Sometimes we can find ourselves in a lot of trouble. However we have peace in God. Below are two Bible verses where Jesus talks about peace.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 (ESV)
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (ESV)
May you know God the Father and Jesus Christ and by Him have eternal life. When you want to learn more about Jesus, you can read the Bible. A good start can be to read the Gospel of John in the Bible.
